Settings and Personalisation

In this chapter, we’ll take a look at system settings, how to configure devices, and personalise windows.

Adjusting System Settings

To adjust system settings, you’ll need to use the settings app.

Settings App

To open the settings app, click the start button, then select the settings app icon.

On the top left, you’ll see your Microsoft Account. You can click on this to edit your info, sign in options, email accounts and so on. Underneath that, you’ll see a search field that is used to search for settings.

Down the left hand side you’ll see a list of categories. Settings for different features and options are grouped into these categories.

For example, all settings to do with devices such as printers, mice and keyboards can be found in the ‘bluetooth & devices’ category.

Searching for Settings

The quickest way to change a setting is to search for it using the search field on the settings app.

If I wanted to change the printer settings, I’d just type ‘printer’ into the search field.

Click on ‘Printers & Scanners’ in the list of suggestions in the drop down box.

You can do this for any setting you need to change.

General Settings

General configuration settings worth noting are date and time, power saving options, regional settings and keyboard layouts.

Desktop Background

To change the wallpaper or background on your desktop, right click on your desktop, then from the popup menu, select ‘personalise’.
