A lesbian relationship tries to survive berzerk love, while rage swells in gas stations and living rooms around them; erupting into nationwide revolution. Set in Lebanon, this collection of poems studies the symbiotic relationship between tenderness and violence at every layer of the characters' lives, from intimacy to uprising. A fictionalised retelling of Luxx's time in Beirut during the current crisis as a British Syrian lesbian woman, the book is written in forms typical to the region including the qasida and ghazal. Powerful, dynamic and uncompromising.
to write the wrongs of centuries, we must brew our own tools
no physician predicted this
between major and minor notes
an itch of a bird song

I crossed a continent to tell you
about Qays this is how my salt enters you
the sun devours everything
but as it falls we wow, wow
at all it gives, all wow light
orange sublime falling
refected in your face
when mist conceals its view
you need to know I will still mountain
even wandering its peaks
I cannot measure
how high this mountain rose
nor how orange
falling always renews
I will always mountain you.
You ask if mountains can fall, I say sand dune.
You ask what happened to Qays
I dust salt of your lips
& admit:
he was found alone, killed,
beside a sand dune
gazelle lapping at the ...
