Der Band enthält einerseits Studien, die darauf reagieren und Argumente für die bleibende Bedeutung des Alten Testaments in Theologie und Kirche aufzeigen. Andererseits versammelt er Beiträge aus den letzten Jahren, die einer neuen Sicht einer »Theologie des Alten Testaments« und ihrer hermeneutischen Begründung zuarbeiten. Unmittelbarer Anlass für dieses Buch ist die theologische Debatte über die Thesen zum Alten Testament des Berliner systematischen Theologen Notger Slenczka. Es zielt auf alle, die sich an dieser Debatte innerhalb (und außerhalb) von wissenschaftlicher Theologie und Kirche beteiligen und an der Bibel als Glaubenszeugnis und Kulturerbe interessiert sind.
