Visitors have a vast range of accommodation options in this part of Portugal. Hotels are scattered across the major towns and resorts of the Algarve, but densely clustered in sprawling resorts that stretch from Lagos to Faro – especially around Portimão, Albufeira and Vilamoura.
Book well in advance for high season, July–September, when hotel beds are difficult to come by. Hotel prices are hugely inflated in the height and heat of summer (though many luxury hotels are also at peak rates around Christmas and New Year). A hotel that is a relatively good bargain in May or October – in many ways the best time to visit the Algarve – may be double or treble the price during the summer months.
Room price guidelines below are rack rates for a double room with bath in high season, including breakfast and value-added tax. Thus, the prices below may be considerably more than you’ll end up paying. All hotels, save for the tiniest residential inns, accept major credit cards. For making reservations, Portugal’s country code is 351; the prefixes for the Algarve are 281, 282 and 289.
