Mark was probably the first Gospel to be written, and traditionally has been associated with Peter, who opened the door of faith to the Romans, as the human source. Service is its keynote and speed its characteristics. There is a charm about it which is distinctively its own, much of which is created by the bluntness and brevity of the writing of a man evidently untrained in literary methods, but also by its fast-moving chronological continuity. Their supreme purpose is to help hurrying men and women in these rushing days to go in the company of Jesus--of Him who ever moved with haste, but always with poise and peace, along the tortuous and at times terrifying highway of life.
