The action takes place in the living room of a flat. It could be anywhere, any style. There could be a mattress in the middle of the room. There is a laptop or TV and Sound System. There are Porn DVD cases.

All the characters have been talking on mobile phone apps prior to the party, and have arrived through meeting on Grindr, Scruff etc.

When working on the play, rehearsals should be focused on finding the subtext and story of the party. Who agrees/disagrees/related to the last story told? How have the drugs impacted? Who wants who? If looked for, there is always some trigger in what the last person said that the next person is picking up on to trigger what they are saying. The main aim is find the story of the party you’re creating, through relationships, cause and effect, and subtext.

Preset. All the bellow is set to music, and is choreographed action. As the audience enters J is on stage watching The X Factor on a laptop, also watching his phone for messages, restless. After some hesitation he goes off, then comes on again with drugs including Mephedrone. He cuts and snorts two lines of the drug.

He looks at Grindr on his phone, sends a message, keeps checking for a response.

Grindr bleeps.

M arrives, takes his coat off, settles, snorts a line. They both watch The X Factor.

On front of house clearance M changes The X Factor to a club tune he loves.

Grindr bleeps.

M is slightly annoyed. J shows him R and B’s pics on his phone and tells him they have arrived. M grudgingly accepts.

R and B arrive. They all greet.

J goes off – R turns up the music.

J brings chillout things (EG; sheets/towels/shorts/lube and poppers).

After a pause – agreement between the four.

They dress the space for a chillout, maybe covering the sofa, or putting out throws.

They undress and put on chillout things (shorts/singlets/jocks/harness etc.)

When they are dressed Grindr bleeps.

They rush to the phone. J shows the group PJ’s pic. They agree. He arrives.

They greet – he is awkward.

J offers PJ a line – he declines.

J (Turns down the music and asks PJ:) So go on, tell me, is this your first chill? (General adlibs of ‘Aww’ and ‘Bless’.)

R: (Before PJ can answer.) I think the first sex party I ever went to, I suppose sex party wasn’t what it was called then, but I went to a ‘group sex session’ when I was sixteen or seventeen?

J: We called it a group session too. It sounds a bit primitive, doesn’t it? Me and my ex used to do them a bit. Host them. In Glasgow. (Aimed at M.) Despite people’s belief that chillouts haven’t reached other parts of the country – it isn’t true!

And it was more kind of – how far can I go? I guess to mirror what was going on in my own mind, coz I was quite confused about a lot of things?

Awkward pause.

J: (Trying to divert PJ from his over-sharing.) Talking of confusing, there was a guy sat there last night injecting his penis with Caverject.

M: What’s that?

J: It’s Viagra in injection form.

M: OMG – wow! I find needles very difficult to cope with!
