About This Book
Rosemary and Evelyn met "a hundred thousand years ago" in Central Park when their children were barely born. Somewhere Fun reunites the two women thirty-five years later on Madison Avenue, one windy fall day. With their children now grown and the world changing rapidly before (what's left of) their eyes, each finds herself face to face with the terrors, joys, and surprises of life and time. Somewhere Fun is a wildly original story about connection â to our families, our memories, our moment in time.

OFFICER:
Is that your mother?
BENJAMIN:
That's a puddle.
OFFICER:
Is that puddle your mother?
BENJAMIN:
I have no idea.
OFFICER:
(So beautiful she could weep.)
Fortunately, the skull is in beautiful condition.
Teeth are intact and very few blemishes.
(Noticing, discover.)
If any.
Don't touch.
Not without gloves or tongs.
BENJAMIN:
What's this?
OFFICER:
A purse.
The deceased was carrying a purse.
Unfortunately, the contents are melted.
BENJAMIN:
Melted?
OFFICER:
(Really experience feelings of melting.)
âfraid so.
Gruesome, I know.
What a way to go.
Yeesh.
Youâre tellinâ me.
BENJAMIN:
My mother melted?
OFFICER:
(Calling off.)
We have a positive ID!
(Back to BENJAMIN.)
I understand youâre grieving.
Here.
Take a pamphlet.
Here.
Take two.
Happy to help.
No trouble at all.
That's why they pay me the big bucks.
(Shouting off.)
Case closed!
Ka-ching.
(To BENJAMIN.)
Print, sign, and date, please.
Print sign, and date, please.
Print sign, and date as directed.
Please.
(Panic.)
Don't leave me hanginâ.
(Yelling off.)
False alarm!
(Referring to the pamphlets.)
Mind if I take those back?
BENJAMIN:
Actually, Iâd like to keep them.
(Reading pamphlet titles.)
âWhat everyone should know about the first year of grief.â
âGetting through the holidays after the loss of a loved one.â
OFFICER:
(Shouting off.)
Case re-opened!
(To BENJAMIN, as if starting over, has said this before.)
We believe these are the remains of a Rosemary Rappaport.
Weâre basically a hundred percent.
As her next of kin, we need your confirmation.
(Getting fed up.)
You are her next of kin?
Benjamin Rappaport Junior?
Middle initial P?
BENJAMIN:
Ben.
OFFICER:
Ben.
Now that weâve got that settled, back to square one.
BENJAMIN:
Is that a shoe?
OFFICER:
(Philosophical.)
Was.
Not anymore it ain't.
Inexplicable, life.
One day youâre a shoe.
And the next youâre...
