SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
Chapter 1
Who am I?
My name is Dr. Terence Young and I have had the privilege and the pleasure of being able to serve people as a physician in the field of obstetrics and gynecology for over 22 years.
My outcome is to present you with a system that has been transformational in my life. Not just my life, but in the lives of those that I have taught it to as well. And once you learn it, you will learn how to live a more fulfilled life, with passion and purpose. You will start to feel that you are not just living day to day, but you are alive and thriving every day.
During my transition from being a full-time doctor to full-time entrepreneur, Iāve encountered many victories and losses. The wins put me in a state of excitement and euphoria and the lows brought me down to levels of sadness and frustration that almost made me want to quit my journeyāmy transformation towards becoming an enhanced version of myself.
Now, you may wonder why a physician of 22 years decided to step away from what was comfortable, financially secure and āsafeā to enter the realm of entrepreneurship. Well, the reason is simpler than you think, and many people can relate to it.
My life was frustrating me many years ago because I was living someone elseās. Like many others, I was frustrated, overwhelmed and unfulfilled because I wasnāt walking my own path to get to the life that I desired. I was walking someone elseās path to get the life that they desired.
Jim Rohn described it best with this powerful quote:
āIf you donāt design your own life plan, chances are youāll fall into someone elseās plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.ā
So, the purpose of this book is to provide you with a simple system and pathway that will support and guide you, as it has me and those that I have worked with. I will help you to overcome your fears and challenges in life, conceive your dreams and deliver an enhanced version of you.
You will develop the proper mindset to focus on your success.
You will identify, address, and overcome the fears that are holding you back from taking the necessary action that moves your life forward.
You will be empowered with the freedom of designing the goals and outcomes that will be transformative.
But before we do that, I would like to take the next 60 seconds to describe to you how to get the most out of reading this book. Itās a very simple four step process that will help you develop the proper mindset to maximize your results.
The first step is that you took the time to invest in yourself and get this book. Congratulations to you for being ahead of the curve!
The second step is to find out exactly where you are in life and what you are looking for. This step is about being honest and open with yourself about where you are in life and where you want to be. You will move forward faster towards what you desire when you have a clear and honest understanding of where you are now. This is the time to get real with yourself, not hold back from playing full-out, and answer the tough questions which you may have avoided in the past.
Step three is about learning the abundance of techniques and strategies I will lay out for you. Think of these strategies and techniques like that old-school black bag that physicians used to carry around. They would have so many tools and items that could treat a variety of different ailments and each one had its purpose. Here, Iām going to present you with multiple tools and items in the form of assignments. Some are verbal, some mental, and others are physical in the form of written documentation.
The fourth step is about putting the techniques and strategies that resonate with you into action, becoming that new and enhanced YOU! Those will be the ones that will empower you the most, getting you quicker to the outcomes that you desire. It will be as simple as mastering two or three tools in order to get the best out of you!
You may ask, what is my reasoning for wanting to help other people achieve their dreams?
As far back as I can remember, I have had this burning desire to help others. I knew this was what I was put on this earth to do. With my youthful energy and can-do attitude, no one could stop me.
There was a moment in high school when I had a meeting with my counselor, feeling excited about telling her my chosen path in life and then, it turned all to crap. I remember storming out of the guidance counselorās office after the meeting.
Why?
I was pissed!
After confidently stating that my goal in life was to become a doctor, she curtly and plainly informed me that I should aim lower.
Aim lower?!
As much as it stung that she didnāt believe in me, I didnāt let that stop me. I followed my dream to go to college even though my guidance counselor said I wasnāt going to make it. Medical school was hard. Despite this, many of the doctors told me that I was one of the hardest working and best students theyād ever seen.
But exams were a constant struggle and the anxiety sometimes got to me. After failing the same exam twice, I was threatened to be expelled if I failed another one. The school even forced me to take an IQ test and go to meditation classes to prove that I belonged. It was almost like being in that counselorās office again, only this time all my hard work and years of my life were on the line.
On my third try, I passed the exam with flying colors.
I vowed to never fail a test again. And I never did.
I completed my residency at Emory University, one of top ten residency programs in the country. And after four grueling years of 90-hour workweeks, I graduated with one of the highest starting salaries.
I was beaming with joy! I had arrived.
For the next 15 years, I lived my childhood dreamādelivering babies, performing complex surgeries, and serving in womenās health care. The hours were long, and the work was tiring, but this had been what I had put all my heart and soul into.
Then, in the fall of 2011, something much unexpected happenedā¦
It was any another work day. I just finished up a routine patient visit when I was called into the Department Director's office.
āTerence, you havenāt made the income we expected. We are going to let you go.ā
My stomach dropped.
Fired!?!
This cannot be happening to me.
Dazed, I sat staring into the distance, my mind fixated on the diamond ring I had just bought my fiancĆ©e and the image of the life we had envisioned for our family. Completely devastated, I had no idea what Iād do next.
I took a good look inside. I loved my career as a physician, but I could feel myself getting burned out by the business side of it all. I had set out to help people on a massive scale. It was my purpose to make a differenceā¦ not be just another faceless employee in the corporate machine. It was time to take my lifeās work to the next level and help others on an even larger scale. It was time to take on my biggest and most difficult fearāgoing into business for myself.
It took more than just the verbal decision. I like to say, āInstead of delivering babies I delivered a NEW ME.ā I created a shift in my mindset and habits.
And it changed EVERYTHING.
Now, I am making an impact on peopleās lives by showing them how to experience the same freedom I have. No more 90-hour workweeks or missed date nights. I will never forget the feeling in my stomach the moment I saw my wifeās face when I had to cancel yet ANOTHER date night between us because I was mentally and physically exhausted.
This job that I worked so many hours and spent so much time studying to achieve was sucking the life out of the things that were most important. Life was happening, and I was just plodding away on the corporate hamster wheel.
Fast forward six years laterā¦
I am providing my wife with the quality of life she deserved and was promised to her the moment she walked down the aisle. And now we have more date nights than ever. We are laughing about things that would normally have been huge stressors, all because I was able toā¦
Cut down hours, make my own schedule, and build my own business.
These were things that were only a glimmer of a dream six years before. Now, I get to focus on what is truly important in life while bettering peopleās livesāemotionally, spiritually, and financially.
Iāve been where you are at. Feeling overwhelmed at home and work with the responsibilities and challenges. Being scared and worried that I would never live the life that I desired. One with passion, excited about what I do each day, feeling happy and complete.
The truth is that if I can do it, so can you! As someone that lives a life serving and helping others, I will be your guide to help you overcome your fears, challenges, and obstacles in life. As I transition away from the corporate world, I have more time to guide others towards what they desire in their own lives. Itās fulfilling for me to know that I can help so many people live a happier life.
When I started my journey, I was just like you; I wanted to have the freedom to live life on my own terms. I began studying the habits and actions of successful people to learn their secrets to achieving all the things in life they desired. I found the one thing that they had in common was their mindset.
People that strive for achieving freedom in their life often hit a critical crossroads. They are either the type of person who knows what they want in life, starts on their intended pathway, but gets derailed because of fear and loss of focus. Or, they are the type of person who doesnāt know exactly what they desire in life, but they know they want to achieve more. However, fear or lack of focus prevents them from even starting on the pathway.
Either the onset of fear or the lack of focus will prevent people from achieving the freedom that they desire in their lives. This freedom can come in many different forms depending on the pathway that someone chooses in their life. So how does freedom look to you?
We are going to review questions that may cause uncomfortable feelings to arise within. Notice them because they will help you push out of your comfort zone to the next level.
Are you seeking freedom from a job or a career path that you feel does not serve you?
Are you looking for freedom to be able to express yourself more optimally in a relationship?
Do you seek the freedom to be in a relationship and be the person that you truly are and not the person that your partner desires you to be?
Are you seeking the freedom to live by a means financially when you have less stress and worry about your own financial situation?
Are you seeking the freedom to escape your current level of physical health and live a more optimal and healthier lifestyle?
If you are, then wonderful because you can achieve what you desire. Just a small shift with your thinking, combined with the proper actions, will help you move towards the life that you desi...
