Substitution. This is the great sin of the Israelites in the Old Testament. In Jeremiah 2: 13, God states that they had committed two evils. They had forsaken God, "the fountain of living waters, " and had replaced Him with broken cisterns, "which can hold no water." This is also the great sin of the Laodicean Church and the average church member in America today; God calls them wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.What happened? In both cases, the average "believer" had substituted the power of the Holy Spirit for acts of religion. In the average church, focus is on activity, pounding ungodly rock music, and "excitement"-all of which gets the blood pumping and the heart beating fast, but is a work of the flesh nonetheless. God also called the Laodicean Church member lukewarm. The actual temperature of lukewarm is 98 degrees, near the natural body temperature. Lukewarm is a production of the flesh in worship.This book serves as both a warning and as a teaching tool to instruct honest seekers yearning to live a life in the power of the Holy Spirit. It's not only necessary, but is what God expects of a true Christian.The choice is yours: living waters...or broken cisterns.

Moving God’s Hand - 6/1/16

The need of man moves the heart of God

This is truth throughout all the land

But not until you step forward in faith

Will God start moving His hand

God desires His children to trust Him

And some proclaim faith very loud

Yet fail to see prayers answered

Though they talk of faith ever proud

They fail to see God’s desire

Is to put our faith to the test

To walk in humble submission

If we ever would enter His rest

He has asked us to walk in assurance

That our needs He’ll supply in due course

If we ask in faith without waver

For He has abundant resource

He knows everything you have need of

As you travel this vale here below

And wants to provide every blessing

Of His provision yearns to bestow

But our lack of faith hinders blessing

And so, God’s hand is withdrawn

Though He stands on guard in the night watch

From the dusk until rising of dawn

He yearns for His children to trust Him

To do and not just to say

Just knowing is different than trusting

For the walk of faith is God’s way

So trust without pause, without fear

For in this will your life face the test

That His thoughts of you are for peace

And in love will give you His best.

Moving God’s Hand

Hebrews 11:8

There is a distinct principle in scripture that God desires His children to walk in faith. This is a subject on which countless books have been written. In Hebrews 11:6, His Word declares, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him.” But what does a walk of faith really mean?

My sister Kathy is perhaps the greatest faith and prayer warrior I know. She served many years as a missionary to Thailand. After more than a dozen years there, she found herself without a husband. She returned to the States and raised her children to adulthood as a single mother. In 2017, with her children grown, she sold her house, gave away most of her possessions to the needy, then returned to Thailand to work among the poorest there—the abused and outcast of the streets. Her walk with God inspires me. However, to sell all we have and go to a mission field like Thailand is not God’s will for everyone! Her twin, Karen, firmly holds the rope for Kathy from her home in Florida. Karen and her husband, Tom, have lived a life of faith as well and have demonstrated His love to others by a giving life. Like Kathy, I hold Tom and Karen in high regard.

Yet and again, does this mean that doctors, lawyers, bankers, business executives, and others, who may have of this world’s goods, cannot have a life of faith? Of course not. So once again, what does it mean to live a life of faith? Simply, I think it means to live a life in full submission to the Holy Spirit, to seek His counsel in daily steps. Do I witness to this person, Lord? And what should I say? Do I meet this need someone has, or are You teaching them something right now? Do I hold tight to what You give me, or do I allow myself to be a conduit for You to bless others? As we submit daily to God, we live a life of obedience to the Holy Spirit’s quiet steering.

God desires to bless us. Our needs move His heart. This is because He is a compassionate God and His character is love. However (and hear me well here), God has demonstrated in His Word that while His heart may be moved in compassion, He will not move His hand until we step out in faith. Compassion moves His heart, but faith moves His hand. And then He moves the mountains.
