De acuerdo con el plan general del Curso de Física teórica, no se tratan en este tomo las cuestiones de Electrodinámica de los medios continuos, limitándose a exponer la Electrodinámica microscópica, es decir, la Electrodinámica del vacío y de las cargas puntuales.Los dos últimos capítulos contienen la teoría de los campos gravitatorios, esto es, la teoría general de la relatividad. No se presupone en el lector un conocimiento previo del análisis tensorial, que se expone paralelamente al desarrollo de la teoría.
