La Odisea es un poema Ă©pico compuesto por veinticuatro cantos, atribuido al poeta griego Homero, y estĂĄ considerado como uno de los primeros textos de la Ă©pica grecolatina y, por tanto, de la literatura occidental. El libro, escrito originalmente en lo que se ha llamado dialecto homĂ©rico, narra la vuelta a casa (la isla de Ítaca) del hĂ©roe griego Odiseo (Ulises al modo latino) despuĂ©s de la guerra de Troya. Ulises, que antes de partir a la batalla era rey de la isla, tarda diez años en regresar, un periodo en el que su hijo TelĂ©maco y su esposa PenĂ©lope tienen que tolerar a los pretendientes que quieren casarse con ella (pues creen al hĂ©roe muerto) y que estĂĄn acabando con los bienes de su familia. En el viaje el rey de Ítaca debe hacer frente a numerosos peligros y aventuras, que logra sortear gracias a su astucia e inteligencia y a la ayuda de Palas Atenea, hija de Zeus.
