About This Book

Sara Goldman nació en enero de 1901 en Tiszalök (Hungría), en el seno de una familia judía tradicionalista. Tocaba el violín y el xilofón, y solía escribir. En los primeros meses de 1944, fue deportada a Auschwitz junto con su esposo, József Feuerman, e Ibi, su hija menor; mientras que Edith, su hija mayor, fue confinada al gueto de Budapest. József fue asesinado en la cámara de gas, recién llegado a Auschwitz. Poco antes de la rendición de Alemania, Sara e Ibi fueron trasladadas al campo de refugiados de Theresienstadt, para luego regresar a Hungría. Se estableció en Miskolc y más tarde en Budapest, donde falleció en 1989.En sus días en Auschwitz, Sara tomó un cuaderno que pertenecía a la enfermería del lager y, con un maltrecho lápiz negro, lo llenó de prosa y poesía que reproducimos en este libro –con su traducción al castellano– línea por línea, página por página.
