About This Book
If you are a primary trainee, you must demonstrate a knowledge of science to be recommended for QTS. This popular, widely recommended, text helps you audit your knowledge of science and understand what learning you need to pass your course. A rigorous test helps you identify your strengths and weaknesses and can be revisited at key stages in your course as a tool to monitor and evaluate progress. The fourth edition has been updated in line with the new National Curriculum, includes more information on expanding and developing your knowledge of science and is linked to the 2012 Teachers' Standards.

Part 3: Perceived competence and confidence in science
It is entirely possible that as you respond to the following sections you might notice that you feel quite competent in an area of science, or even a āstrandā within it, but lack the confidence to teach it. Competence and confidence are clearly quite different things. By the end of your training you will feel better about both.
Competence
There are rather a lot of areas within the self-audit and you will need some time to read through and complete this part thoroughly. The āstrandsā are reproduced here to introduce you to the requirements. You do not need to know about or feel competent with e...
