Die Geschichte des Messias im Judentum ist eine Geschichte enttĂ€uschter Hoffnungen. Immer wieder gab es Heilsfiguren, denen diese Rolle zugeschrieben wurde. Doch die Erlösung von Besatzung und Fremdherrschaft, Exil, UnterdrĂŒckung und Verfolgung blieb aus. Deshalb geriet die Erwartung des Messias an die Peripherie jĂŒdischer Theologie. In ihrem Gang durch die jĂŒdische Geistesgeschichte zeigen die Autoren die Abkehr von einem personalen Messias und die BekrĂ€ftigung der Hoffnung der Propheten auf ein universales messianisches Zeitalter. Dies betont die Pflicht aller Menschen, an der Heilung der Welt mitzuwirken. Deutlich wird: Die Messiasidee kann keine BrĂŒcke zwischen Christentum und Judentum sein.
