Servando Teresa de Mier nació en el ya decrépito virreinato de la Nueva España y murió en una república federal recién nacida. Entre 1763, cuando vio la luz en Monterrey, y 1827, cuando congregó a su alrededor a los más altos personajes del México independiente para exhalar su último aliento, el mundo sufrió transformaciones como la Revolución francesa o la desintegración del imperio español.
