Es wird dem Leser im plaudernden biographischen Stil aufgezeichnet mit welchen Höhen und Tiefen, Schwierigkeiten und Widerständen diese Aufgaben durchgeführt wurden - und noch werden - und wie Misswirtschaft, politische und persönliche Interessen, Machtansprüche, Bevölkerungsexplosion und Korruption der Entwicklung im Wege stehen können.Der Autor war über vier Jahrzehnte auf dem Gebiet der Wasserwirtschaft mit viel Lust und Leidenschaft tätig, unter anderem bei der UN-Landwirtschafts-Organisation in Rom (FAO) und als einziger Deutscher bei der Weltbank in Washington D.C. auf diesem Gebiet. Nach seiner Pensionierung arbeitete er noch Jahre für andere Organisationen einschließlich der deutschen Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) und dem Internationaler Fond für landwirtschaftliche Entwicklung (IFAD).Seine Eindrücke, Erlebnisse und Abenteuer mit wasserwirtschaftlichen Aufgaben in 35 Ländern und auf etwa 140 Missionen rund um den Globus sind in diesem Buch aufgezeichnet, zusammen mit detaillierten Anekdoten und Kommentaren und gewürzt mit einem gewissen Humor.
