About This Book
When the Heart Zooms In is a poetry book about the author's personal journeys across three places, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United States, that touch his deepest heart. The title represents how he looks at himself and things in a deeper way, which involves dichotomies of feelings that he expresses in each poem, such as sadness and happiness, disappointment and optimism, beast and beauty, and hopelessness and hopefulness. All of these feelings cover various topics, which are mostly about places, nature, gender identity, affection, and mental health. This poetry is personal, yet worth sharing to promote expressivism and mental health, for the author believes in "caring by sharing." There are fifty-five poems in this book using the five senses with a heart and mind. It is hoped that readers can relate the poems to their lives and know that they are not alone.
