As modernas estatísticas de criminalidade no Brasil revelam os perfis requintados de violência, inclusive a organizada, a corrupção endêmica, os dados e as ocorrências de ilícitos cumulativos e ascendentes. Assim, a segurança pública tomou a pauta da discussão nacional, figurando como uma das principais inquietações da população brasileira. É preciso, pois, repensar e reformular o paradigma estratégico das forças, instituições e dos Poderes diretamente vinculados ao tema. Nesse cenário, a presente obra tem como escopo investigar a atuação específica e finalística do Ministério Público brasileiro na segurança pública, visando ao aperfeiçoamento da Instituição. Para tanto, são apontadas as dificuldades enfrentadas no cumprimento deste mister e apresentadas propostas de aprimoramento funcional por meio da adoção estratégica da atividade de inteligência e do aproveitamento dos novos espaços e das oportunidades proporcionados pela Lei nº 13.675, de 11 de junho de 2018, que cria a Política Nacional de Segurança Pública e Defesa Social (PNSPDS) e institui o Sistema Único de Segurança Pública (Susp). Busca-se contribuir para aumentar o protagonismo do Ministério Público na área de segurança pública, bem servindo à população, desempenhando com efetividade e mais protagonismo o seu papel constitucional.
