About This Book

The XXXVIII Bioengineering School aims at presenting the emerging technologies, methods and tools for surgeryand therapy, with an integrated approach and with an international vision, by focusing on the new trends inresearch and clinics. By combining theoretical contributions and critical analysis of the different surgical/therapeuticsolutions, the School will touch many topics: image-based modeling of the patient for surgical navigation, machine-learning and AI-based diagnostics and surgical robotics. Surgical outcome assessment and post-operativerehabilitation methods will complete the analysis.All these methods are remodeling the future of surgery and therapy, which are more and more assisted by imagingand advanced robotic tools. In this process, the biomedical engineer plays a major role and has the responsibilityto guide the innovation. For this aim, an interdisciplinary approach is mandatory: the biomedical engineer shallblend modeling technologies, imaging solutions, expertise on the development of robotics tools with advanceddexterity, while taking into account certification, validation, and assessment processes, which are pivotal for theclinical translation.
