Self ImprovementStep Four:
Know Your Sh*t!
OMG, itâs time for us to take more inventory of ourselves. Hmmm. Are you really ready? Many of us lack the time to focus, especially if we know subconsciously that what we need to home in on is a bit painful. For a lot of us, itâs easier to focus on someone elseâs crap than it is for us to work through our own. When lifeâs problems are coming at you like a freight train, itâs only natural to freeze the emotion and bury it, trust me. But if a feeling is like an ice cube, it doesnât simply melt and turn into water. As time ticks on, your frozen emotions are still the same festering feelingsânot very useful if youâre desperately trying to get out from under your emotional rollercoaster that is stuck at the top of the ride. Although we think we know our sh*t, câmon now, many of us donât have a clue. Is that you?
#Be honest.
Some of us lack âself,â which blocks our emotional roadway from moving forwardâfrom evolving. Think about this: what if you nay-sayers out there stopped being jaded, got rid of your baggage, threw it out the window, and walked into life with a clean slate and a smile on your face?
Iâm willing to offer you a clean slate, if you take this free self-assessment.
10 Signs You Might Not Know Your Sh*t!:
- You donât think a potential recruiter will find the amateur porno video you posted on the Internet six years ago.
- Your resume is half made-up, and the other half is cut-and-pasted from another personâs LinkedIn.
- You have a major presentation you should be preparing for, but youâre playing World of Warcraft.
- You are so bored at work, you canât be bothered to read the urgent memo your boss sent you.
- Your bills are piling up, and even though youâve got the money in the bank to pay them, you couldnât care less if youâre late or not.
- Your puppy needs to pee-pee and youâre more focused on texting your new love interest.
- You dismissed the 911 emergency call when the grandparent who raised you was rushed to the hospital.
- You think youâre fat at a size zero.
- You forget to cash your twenty thousand dollars in lottery winnings.
- After two years, you havenât come to grips that your best friend committing suicide.
In order to figure out your strategy for lifeâto work out your sh*t, you have to stop worrying about The Friggenâ Joneses and âcome to Jesusâ (or your chosen higher authority) as you really are, fully exposed. You canât hide behind your Prada bag and Air Jordans any longer. We all have a threshold when our bodies say, âKeep pushing forward because you are a super-personâ or, âStop, because you canât go any further.â
Thatâs why:
#You really have to know your sh*t in order to
get out of your own way and be
comfortable in your own skin.
get out of your own way and be
comfortable in your own skin.
Whether you know it or not, I truly believe that most of us, you and me included, want to do the best we can because weâre put on the planet for a purpose. To fulfill that purpose, we need to know our capabilities. Some people are capable of jumping out of an airplane, some can make a mean apple pieâwhatever it is, filling your capacity tank with what you know (and donât know) about yourself helps you embark on the road of personal enlightenment.
My favorite person of all times, Demetra, was a rising Broadway superstar. If this girl stayed home for a week, it would be a miracle. Traveling here, traveling there, Demi (as we called her) knew her sh*t more than anyone I knew. She came from humble beginnings, had absolutely no support from her family, basically taught herself to dance, and pulled it all together to land some of the most important Broadway shows of our century. Hell, when she was called to fill in for the role of Evita in Paris, she fucking learned the French score in a week! To say that Demi had the capacity for standing on the stage and commanding attention was an understatement.
After years and years of traveling, Demi began losing steam and caring less and less about the showbiz thing. You would be tired too if you performed in over twenty-one countries in a decade. What an amazing experience to see the world through the eyes of theater; however, now it was time for Demi to come home.
#When you know the curtain has come down,
exit, stage left.
exit, stage left.
When Demi came back to the States, she was welcomed by an invalid uncle and debt from here to et...
