HONOURS, QUALIFICATIONS AND APPOINTMENTS

Notes on the Use of Abbreviations for Honorific and Other Affixes

In no circumstances do honorific initials (even VC) appear on visiting cards.
Honorific affixes, whether military decorations or not, should be appended in addressing formal letters; but not in the case of Privy Counsellors.
Affixes indicating professional qualification or official status should be used only when addressing the correspondent in his or her professional or official capacity. This includes DL and JP.
The order of letters after the name (and after the abbreviations Bt or Esq., if they apply) is fixed, and should be followed as set out below.

These should not be omitted, if any letters are used at all, and in most cases it is preferable to include them in an address. They should be written in the sequence given on page 165.
