Introduction

Through-out the history, we have seen great and bad leaders.
There is a difference between a leader and a follower, but also a boss. For the most part, the only true leaders are those individuals who lead by example.
That’s what you’ll learn from this book, how to overcome leadership problems and win battles along the way.
I am not talking about battles within, but having the courage to motivate and keep relationships strong.

The Leadership Gap

Do you think great leaders were great at first?
Most of them were terrible; this image of a good thoughtful person is not really real so you should get rid of it.
That’s probably the first rule: Get rid of the people who are not ready to begin and keep an adventure on.
Keep in mind, that you need a strong team before anything else. For this purpose, I suppose that you already have a team and want to become a good leader.
Most people think that leaders should be the first persons to win after the IPO for example. That’s clearly the wrong mentality and you should be always aware.
True leaders put the team daily needs first. And yeah, giving stock in your company to your team is an essential thing to convince them that there is a higher purpose even if it’s not like that, yet.
You have to win together otherwise you have no chance in this game of power struggle.
Another question that people ask is about solopreneurs. What are they and what are supposed to do? Working for yourself is great, as a freelancer.
But being a solopreneur is a bad idea on the long-term. Let me explain why.
First, in the short-term is always like that, you have to learn from books, videos, podcasts, and then practice a little bit, as a beginner entrepreneur.
What about solopreneurs? They are supposed to be beginners every single time for the rest of their lives. There is something clearly wrong here, maybe the mindset or something else, but I got to tell you, it is about what you prioritize.
Ask yourself: What is the most important thing, a great team of people who can deliver smart ideas or an entitled solopreneur who most of the time is just greedy.
Even A players should play with other A players and this will result in a win-win situation.
Real Example: We all know, Apple started in a garage, founded by a hippie and a geek, but there was teamwork, Jobs was the marketing genius for the most part and Wozniak was the brilliant engineer.

Sell Stories not Products

We’ve talked about Steve Jobs, a major part in his success was the fact that he was a storyteller. It is that simple, a product can be great but it also needs to come with a good story. People buy into stories, everywhere you go someone tries to sell you something whether it is a product or service.
Most early-stage sales teams lead with their products. They are typically so excited about their new products, that they get bogged down in selling the minutia of their product’s features and functionality.
They think that is what their clients will care about, and that is what is going to drive a sale. Clients don’t really care about you or your products, they care about themselves, and how you are going to help them to solve their problems.
The best sales teams are masters in storytelling. They artistically layout a big picture problem in the industry, that the client is dealing with.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say your business has built a social media tool (e.g., it helps clients virally spread their message through social sharing).
The wrong pitch would be talking about how great your technology is and all the “bells and whistles” you have built into the product.
A client really doesn’t care, especially since you are one of a hundred other companies peddling similar products to them.

The conclusion from analyzing thousands of personal best leadership experiences is that everyone has a story to tell.
And these stories are much more similar in terms of actions, behaviors, and processes than they are different.
The data clearly challenge the myths that leadership is something that you find only at the highest levels of organizations and society or that it’s something reserved for only a handful of charismatic men and women.
The notion that there are only a few great people who can lead others to greatness is just plain wrong. Likewise, it is plain wrong to believe that leaders only from large or great or small or new organizations, or from established economies or from start-up companies.
The truth is, leadership is an identifiable set of skills and abilities that are available to anyone.
It is because there are so many leaders—not so few—that extraordinary things get done on a regular basis in organizations, especially in times of great uncertai...
