Building a New Design

With Microsoft Publisher, you can easily create various different designs. You can design them from scratch, or you can use one of the many different templates included with the application.

Creating a New Publication

Before you create a new publication you’ll need to make a few decisions about certain aspects, such as page layout, paper type, and size.

Some of the first choices you need to make about your publication involve page layout. Creating a publication from a template takes care of most of these choices for you.

Size

Some publications, like flyers, can be small, A5 or A6. Other publications such as posters are a lot bigger, A3 or A1.

Orientation

Landscape or Portrait. Some flyers are portrait, as are most posters. Greetings cards can be both landscape and portrait orientation.

Margins

Margins are the areas of blank space around the top, bottom, left and right edges of a printed publication.

Open a New Publication

When you open publisher, you’ll be able to select a template to start with or create a blank publication. For this demo, select ‘blank A4 (portrait)’.

If you already have publisher running, click ‘file’ on the top left of the main screen, then select ‘new’.
