Am 24. Februar 1607 fand im Palazzo Ducale von Mantua die UrauffĂŒhrung der Favola d'Orfeo statt. Das Libretto der Komposition, eine Auftragsarbeit zum Karneval und zum 21. Geburtstag des Herzogs, stammte von Alessandro Striggio (1573-1630). Die Komposition des Orfeo stammt von Claudio Monteverdi - und der Tag der UrauffĂŒhrung ist als Geburtsstunde der Oper, der Druck der Partitur zwei Jahre spĂ€ter als "GrĂŒndungsdokument der Oper" zu verstehen. Mit Monteverdis Orfeo beginnt ein neues Kapitel in der Geschichte der musikalischen Gattungen - eine neue Haltung in der Rezeption von Musik, die erschĂŒttern kann und darf, ein Umbruch der herrschenden ZustĂ€nde auf musikalischer wie musiktheoretischer und dazu musiksoziologischer Ebene - und die Geschichte der Musik des 17. und 18.
